I just love George Douglas' way of working. I like the fragmented feel of his images and the way in which he ties together both drawn and collage elements so well (without loosing this slightly detached fragmented feel). I think that using one bright colour in some of the drawn and collaged elements is a really good way of doing this because it makes some parts of both jump out, while others sit back, giving them an equal level of importance. His use of composition is also really interesting because it initially appears random but you can tell it has been carefully considered. (i.e. the addition of the simple black scribble on the right of the figure in the right hand image, which balances in perfectly.)
I think that working in a similar way to this for my poster will work really well for me. At the moment, I have many fragments that I want to somehow bring together in a slightly disjointed way to represent this idea of 'being stuck back together again with glue'. However, I would like my figures to have a slightly more robotic, mechanical feel than those of George Douglas (to reflect this artificial reforming).
- But I need to be careful not to copy
